Short answer: look no further, these are the guys you’ve been looking for. They are four team members with years of modern car knowledge, applied with old-fashioned “put the customers first” care and concern about doing the best job for us customers. Now, if you want to read about my experience, here’s the long story. The Motoren team took on my 2006 Audi A6 3.2 litre when the timing chain system was quietly imploding. My other regular garage who I’d worked with for years wanted nothing to do with it, said it required special tools that they didn’t have and would cost more than the car was worth. That was it, done, no other suggestions and even less interest. But they didn’t stop to ask me what the car was worth to me. Yes, the car has high mileage (+344,000 km’s)¸ but body and interior are in great shape. My wife loves the car and uses it for work where she drives all over town and up to Red Deer. The car has never let her down. Hence my reluctance to let it go for scrap. In my google search for another garage that might have the knowledge to do the work, top of the list was Motoren. Their website showed lots of expertise with German cars and engine repairs. “Bring it down, let us run the codes,” was their reply without hesitation. When I got there, the youngest team member pulled the codes, brought the laptop in and showed Sunny and Kyle. “Oh,” was their observation in unison, which spoke volumes. Four tensioners alone would cost $7200. Then Sunny suggested, “it will be cheaper to do an engine swap,” and asked me what I thought of that idea. “How confident are you in doing that,” was my reply. “Come with me,” was Sunny’s reply, then he led me into the shop. There sat a big Mercedes on one hoist and a Porsche Cayenne on another. The Cayenne’s engine was sitting in pieces on a stand in front of it. “We do this ALL the time,” Sunny said. The Porsche was a 2019; Sunny said they were doing the rings. That cinched it for me. If someone else was trusting them to pull the motor on a late model Porsche, I could trust them to do an engine swap on my 20-year-old Audi. Now the story has a few more twists and turns, but I’ll spare you the details and cut to the chase. This engine swap has been the best thing to happen to our car. Ian did the work and he is meticulous in his organization and approach. The swap engine was claimed to have 145,000 km’s on it by the broker, so it is far from new. But it starts faster, goes faster, burns less gas (I'm averaging 11.57 km’s/litre, or 32 miles to the Imperial gallon for us “seasoned” guys, which even surprises the Motoren guys). All in the swap cost us $10 grand, which was definitely cheaper than fixing our engine. We got a much lower mileage motor in the bargain, plus saved a car from the wrecker that can rocket along at Autobahn speeds without breathing hard. For us, there is no question. Motoren is the garage that we will work with for as long as they will have us. BTW, when I picked up our car, Sunny showed off a beautiful Ferrari Testarossa 12-cylinder monster they were doing the maintenance refresh on after it had been sitting for quite awhile. If someone owning that kind of a car worth an average of $150,000 USD is trusting Motoren to do the work, why wouldn’t we take advantage of that same team to fix our cherished gems? Try them out, Guys, this many 5-star reviews can't have happened by chance.
