Friendly and honest. While they delivered pretty bad news regarding my car. They took me out and pointed out the real problems with it, which is a lot further than many shops will go

I brought my car here in April because I was having brake issues, which were the only issue I was experiencing with the vehicle. Even though I came in for a brake concern only, for whatever reason they checked over the entire front end of my car, which had no issues at the time.
After their inspection (mind you it was just my breaks that were suppose to be checked), I was given a list of recommended repairs totaling almost $2,400, including tie rod ends, control arm and ball joint work, a master cylinder replacement, and brand new tires. I was told my master cylinder needed to be replaced and that my vehicle was not road safe.
The only repair that was actually done that day was straightening the flex rod as that was kinked. Since then, my brakes have worked perfectly with no issues whatsoever. Despite this, I was still told the master cylinder needed replacing and that my vehicle was not "road safe".
I was also told my tires were severely weather-cracked and needed to be replaced immediately. However, those tires were only about four months old at the time. They have since been inspected elsewhere and found to be in excellent condition for their age, with no concerns regarding weather cracking at all.
Today, I called back to ask whether the master cylinder had actually been tested or if it was simply a suspected issue, as my vehicle is being inspected elsewhere this week and I wanted a clearer idea of what repairs might actually be necessary. The gentleman I spoke with was very polite and helpful, but he informed me that the master cylinder had not been tested while they had my car. So unsure why the gentleman who gave me the quote originally here told me this part needed replaced ASAP.
Had I gone ahead with everything I was told was needed this day, I would have spent a significant amount of money on repairs that were not necessary at all. This has left me seriously questioning the accuracy of the service & quote I was given.
I can’t say for certain why this happened, but when I originally booked the vehicle in, I mentioned that it was my first vehicle and that I didn’t know much about car repairs. I genuinely feel as though I was taken advantage of, and I can’t help but wonder if being a female played a role in how these recommendations were presented to me.
The only positive part of my experience was that they were able to fit me in the same day when I first called in April.
Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage others to seek a second opinion before authorizing major repairs here, as some of the issues identified were not actually confirmed through testing or were later found to be inaccurate.
