Chatelaine Lighting

It is way bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside, both in space and available styles. They have any type of lighting for every kind of house and taste. I liked the customer service too — not invasive and available at the exact moment I needed it.

We worked with Chatelaine Lighting to supply all of the lighting needs for our new house. They did a superb job by offering many lighting choices (a lot of Canadian product). As well, Cathy's advice on the pros/cons of various products was very helpful!

I’m extremely disappointed with the level of customer service at this store.

I called with a genuine attempt to identify a light fixture I had previously purchased from them. I provided a clear and fairly detailed description and explained that it was from their catalogue. Instead of being met with even basic courtesy, I was repeatedly spoken over and not given the opportunity to properly explain what I was looking for.

I was dismissively told they have “thousands of lights” and that I would need to come into the showroom, with no effort made to assist over the phone. When I tried to clarify further, the tone became outright unprofessional. When I suggested that perhaps they weren’t interested in the business, I was called “ridiculous,” and the owner hung up on me.

What makes this even more frustrating is what happened immediately after. I contacted another store - The Lighting Shoppe in Cambridge - and within minutes they were able to identify exactly what I was describing. They were helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. Not only did they locate the lights quickly, but I was able to place an order right away, have them shipped directly to my door and they even offered a 20% discount.

So what could have been a simple, local purchase turned into taking my business elsewhere - entirely because of how I was treated.

It’s hard to understand why a local business would respond this way to a genuine customer inquiry. A small amount of effort and basic courtesy would have secured not only this sale, but future business as well.

If you’re looking for knowledgeable, professional and genuinely helpful service, I would strongly recommend The Lighting Shoppe in Cambridge instead.
