I’ve been going to Dave’s automotive for sometime now and have never went back to another mechanic shop. I always have an excellent experience. The owner is knowledgeable, honest, and genuinely cared about making sure my car was fixed properly. The team was professional, efficient, and kept me updated throughout the process.

I was trying to be understanding and respectful toward Dave and Travis, but I do not understand why I was given conflicting information about the sensor replacement. Here is the back story.

I brought my vehicle to Dave’s Auto after my car showed a P0420 engine code. I have my own OBD2 scanner, and Dave told me the issue could be fixed by replacing a sensor. I agreed to the repair and was charged about $570 for the sensor and labour. According to the receipt, “Bank 1 Sensor 1” was replaced. Dave also mentioned that the engine light might take a few days to go away.

After the repair, I scanned the vehicle again and a new code appeared: P0031. From my research, that code is related to Bank 1 Sensor 1 — the same sensor they said they replaced.

I returned the next day and explained that a new code related to the replaced sensor had appeared. At that point, I was suddenly told that they had actually replaced “Bank 2 Sensor 1,” not “Bank 1 Sensor 1.” They then told me that to fix the new code, I would need to replace “Bank 1 Sensor 1.” I pointed out that the receipt clearly stated that “Bank 1 Sensor 1” had already been replaced. Dave then said the receipt was written incorrectly by mistake.

To verify the information, I visited a few other mechanics, and they all confirmed that the receipt indicates “Bank 1 Sensor 1” was replaced.

I went back multiple times to try to understand what really happened. Eventually, they refunded me for the part, but the issue for me is the loss of trust. My goal was never to bash the shop — I simply wanted my vehicle repaired properly, not made more confusing or worse.

I kept getting different explanations from different people. Travis told me different things at different times, while Dave said something else entirely. The inconsistent information made me feel like I was not being told the full truth, and unfortunately, that caused me to lose confidence in bringing my vehicle there again.

Please be honest with your customers fully because most people do not fully understand vehicles and choose to trust their mechanic completely. If customers feel they are being treated honestly, they will continue coming back for years. Thank you.

Unreliable, dishonest, poor communication. Not a mechanic I can trust, unfortunately.

I have been trying to get my car fixed for 1 year. 4 mechanics and the dealership. Today, Dave's Auto fixed my cat. He gave me a fair price and work done to specs! Thanks Dave and staff! Great overall experience. I will be back and recommend you!
