AVOID SUNSHINE AUTO.

I bought a 1999 Toyota Corolla from Sonny at Sunshine Auto in early 2022 for around $2,500. About a week later, he pressured me for another $500. Almost immediately after buying the car, problems started showing up.

Within the first week, the alternator died while I was driving on the highway. I needed the car for work, but Sonny kept delaying things and was unreliable with timing, so I ended up replacing it myself instead of waiting around for him.

The car already had multiple serious issues when it was sold to me. It had several engine lights on, coolant issues, suspension problems, seized rear brakes, oil leaks, a leaking gas tank, illegal tint, and cosmetic issues including rear doors that would not open properly. The steering was also unsafe — the wheel had to be crooked just to drive straight.

Every time I contacted Sonny about repairs, it turned into months of waiting. A front-end repair on a Corolla somehow took almost a year to get done. He constantly made excuses and dragged things out.

One of the worst jobs was when he installed the gas tank improperly by bolting the strap into the subframe incorrectly. The mounting point failed under the weight and caused more fuel-related problems afterward. When confronted, he tried blaming another employee even though he personally did the work.

He also promised reimbursement for repairs including brake work and transmission fluid after the transmission fluid was found nearly black. Later, when asked about the money, he acted like the conversation never happened.

After the car was eventually written off in an accident, Sonny offered to scrap it. Months later he claimed he still had not done it, but after contacting the scrap yard directly, it became clear he had already been there regarding the vehicle. When questioned about this, he became hostile and started yelling over the phone.

Something else worth mentioning: almost every time I was at the shop, there was another angry customer there complaining about delays or poor service. Sonny would compliment me for “being patient,” but the moment I calmly pushed back on his excuses and delays, suddenly I became “difficult.”

The positive reviews do not match the experience I had. In my opinion, Sunshine Auto sells unsafe vehicles, performs poor-quality work, delays repairs endlessly, and does not stand behind promises made to customers.

Take your car and your money somewhere else.

Sunny sold me a car in 2024 at the beginning of the year. A 1999 Corolla for 2500. He then asked for an extra $500 the next week

Every month I contacted him, he would tell me work needed to be done and it would be done in a week. Sometimes even sooner. Weeks pass. Nothing

A year later he finally changed the front end. A job that takes 6 hours at most to do for a Corolla

The car was littered with issues

Engine lights for 4 issues, coolant issues, suspension issues (the wheel had to be crooked to drive straight), the rear brakes were seized, oil was old and leaking, gas tank was leaking and a lot of cosmetic issues like the rear doors not opening. One because it was missing the inside doorknob and the other was jammed

The tints on the car were also illegal and I had gotten pulled over for it

Every time I went to sunny to fix a new issue, it would take him months to fix

Finally I got fed up with having to pay for these fixes since the car had 260,000km on it and it clearly was t worth the 3k Sonny begged me for on call a year prior. He said he would pay me back for the brake job and the transmission fluid (as the fluid was nearly black)

Sonny said he would pay me back when he had funds

The car then suffered a crash and was written off. He said he could scrap it. 5 months later I ask and he says he still has to scrap it

I call the scrap place and he had already been there

He then got extremely hostile with me on call. Yelling and talking over me.

I finally got the money after he called me to show up to his shop and like always, I had to sit there for a very long. Time if I wanted to talk to him even though he scheduled me

Now I tried to get the money for the brake job and he is acting like we never discussed such a thing

Sonny will act like he is a god fearing man but he is a sugar powder enthusiast with a compulsive lying problem who treats every situation like a car that needs to be greased

DO NOT DEAL WITH SUNSHINE AUTO.

Many times being in there, there was always another angry customer and Sonny would praise my patience

Then I calmly pushed back on his delays and such and I became an angry customer to him

One time I had sonny put my gas tank on and he bolted a strap to the subframe. It broke the hole with its weight, fell and I have been having gas issues ever since. I was able to put it in the hole properly and it has not fallen since. Sonny did not take care of this and initially blamed someone else in his shop when I distinctly remember him being the one to do the job

Sonny is a backyard mechanic who doesn’t even know what he’s doing. Don’t trust him with your money or your car
