I had a really positive experience with Lakeshore Automotive. Matt, the owner, was incredibly honest, practical, and straightforward with his advice. What I appreciated most was that he looked at the bigger picture rather than simply recommending repairs because they could be done.

He took the time to explain the economics of putting additional money into the vehicle, including whether certain repairs were really necessary given the age and expected remaining life of the car. There was absolutely no pressure to spend money unnecessarily, and his advice genuinely felt like it was based on what made the most sense for me rather than what would generate the biggest repair bill.

It’s refreshing to deal with a shop where you feel like you’re getting an honest assessment and practical advice you can trust. I would absolutely recommend Matt and Lakeshore Automotive.

Matt was extremely helpful and saved us a big headache before our 4-hour drive back to Vancouver.

Our gas door was stuck with no way to open it. We tried all sorts of pressing, pulling, twisting, and Googling. We had our dog and 5-month-old baby in the car, so getting stuck would’ve been a huge hassle. At that point, we were worried we’d be stranded for a few hours and end up with an unexpected mechanic bill.

We found Lakeshore Automotive right next to us, and it’s a total blessing that we did. I explained the situation to Matt, and he immediately came outside to help us. He did his best to figure out the problem and ended up carefully prying open the gas door, which solved our immediate problem.

We were amazed that he helped us right away and expected nothing in return. Even if it hadn’t been free, I would trust him with any mechanical issues we might have the next time we’re in town.

Extremely disappointing experience. I’ve been here a couple of times before and had good experiences, which makes this experience even more frustrating.

I called about a month ahead and specifically explained that my passenger door was not locking and my rear wiper was not working. Matt quoted approximately $500–600 and even suggested I check the wiper fuses, which I did. I dropped my car off the day before using their key drop and left my phone number in case anything was unclear.

The next day, I was told both issues were fixed and was quoted approximately $450. Later, Matt called to say the total was $840. When I asked if my passenger door was now locking, I discovered they had repaired the wrong door - apparently a door making a creaking noise rather than the door I specifically said was not locking. I was then told it would be another $600 to fix the correct door. After I refused to pay approximately $1,400, the total was reduced to $950 for the two doors, which I reluctantly agreed to.

I assumed the increased cost included the rear wiper, since I had been told that was fixed. When I picked up my vehicle, I discovered I had instead been charged approximately $20 for a new wiper blade, despite never asking for one. I specifically said the wiper itself was not functioning, and I was then told they hadn’t even checked it - they had simply replaced the blade.

When I pointed this out, Matt told me it was unclear because he had only written down “rear wiper,” despite the fact that I had explained it wasn’t working and he had specifically told me to check the fuses. Rather than apologize, I was blamed for the misunderstanding and even told it sounded like a “budget issue.” He then blamed the fact that I used the day-before key drop, despite the shop offering that option and having my phone number to call if anything was unclear.

I was quoted another $500 to diagnose and repair the wiper. The only solution they had was to put the damaged parts back in, which I agreed to and informed them I would be taking my car elsewhere. He called the next day saying something had snapped in the front door and quoted $450 as the damage couldn’t be put back in for the one door. I ultimately just wanted my vehicle back.

I was then charged for labour to diagnose the wiper, despite telling them I was taking it elsewhere, as well as labour/parts for the front door and the wiper blade I never requested. I paid because I simply wanted to leave. When I requested a receipt outlining what had been done and undone, Matt wrote a lengthy note that, in my opinion, essentially blamed me for the entire situation.

Mistakes happen, but what was most frustrating was the complete lack of accountability. At no point was I contacted to clarify the requested work or authorize the significant increase in costs. I provided my phone number specifically for that reason.

I will never be going back and would not recommend this shop. I strongly suggest getting a second opinion and being very cautious about authorizing work here.
