“10/10 services, highly recommend. Fix Auto literally moved hell and high water to get my car fixed on a late Friday afternoon and I can’t thank them enough.

I was travelling from Halifax to Sydney with my newborn daughter, partner and friendS. We noticed cars started beeping at us so we rolled down our window only to find out our right rear tire was wobbling and looked like it was about to fall off. We slowly made our way to Fix Auto at 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon and even though there were cars in the shop, the mechanic and staff took our car in and found the wheel spacer was mangled. They tightened and retorqued our tires, checked our tire pressure, and took it for a test drive. In the mean time, it wasn’t looking fixable before the mechanic found the root issue, and the woman at the desk (seriously god love her) was effortlessly making phone calls explaining our situation [travelling to Sydney to attend a close relatives funeral] to other local mechanics and enterprise, whom both offered their support and discounted rates if needed. Luckily we didn’t need other services and our car was fixed! We arrived safely in Cape Breton and I was able to attend my father’s funeral.

I cannot thank the friendly, empathetic staff enough for their generosity and help today. I wish there were more people out there like the staff at Fix Auto and community members in Pictou County. Will always recommend these folks if anyone needs car help in Pictou County!”

“I've been meaning to write this review since summer 2025! I was driving Nova Scotia to Quebec, but made it only as far as New Glasgow when my care started making a very loud noise. I stopped at a couple garages at 3 in the afternoon trying to get someone to look at my car and 2 of them sent me away suggesting I go to Wonder.

One of their staff who was supposed to be heading off work for the day agreed to stay bit late and look at my car. While he went the extra mile to do a small weld on my tail pipe he let me know that there was another issue that he could hear, but would need more time to look at before he could diagnose. He told me he wouldn't force me to leave my car, but he's worry about my safety if I drove off in that car.

I could hear the noise as well, but my garage at home had told me it was all in my head and the car was funning just fine! I grabbed a rental and headed off, leaving my car in New Glasgow and it turned out to be tie rod - pretty darn important for steering!

This place is amazing and their staff are generous and wonderful. The price of service was very fair. I'm so glad I stumbled upon them and that they made sure I was safe!”

Have your battery tested before every winter—cold weather dramatically reduces battery capacity
Keep battery terminal connections clean and tight using a wire brush and anti-corrosion spray
If your vehicle sits for extended periods, use a battery tender to maintain the charge
Never attempt to jump-start a cracked or leaking battery—it could explode
Replace your battery every 4 to 5 years as preventative maintenance
If you notice a burning electrical smell, disconnect the battery and get a professional diagnosis immediately

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an alternator replacement cost in New Glasgow? +
Alternator replacement typically costs $400-$800 including parts and labor. Premium or European vehicle alternators can cost $600-$1,200+ due to more complex installations.
How do I know if my battery or alternator is the problem? +
If the car won't start but the lights work, it's likely the starter. If the battery keeps dying, a professional load test will determine if the battery itself is weak or if the alternator isn't charging it properly.
How long does a car battery last in Canada? +
In Canadian climates with extreme temperature swings, car batteries typically last 3 to 5 years. Harsh winters significantly accelerate battery degradation.
Can a parasitic drain kill my battery overnight? +
Yes, a parasitic draw from a faulty module, interior light, or aftermarket accessory staying on can drain your battery overnight. A mechanic can perform a parasitic draw test to isolate the circuit causing the problem.
