“Alex helped me get safetied last year and explained the code when I was confused. He also made sure my car did not get a ticket when dropped off by the tow truck, and towed it the rest of the way into the shop from the outer lot free of charge. The shop is very communicative and cooperative and ensures clients are informed along the way as more is learned about the vehicle and costs of the job.”

“Outstanding customer service. The mechanics here really take their time to diagnose your vehicle and thoroughly explain any symptoms and what can be done to fix it.
Repairs are done at a very high quality and with honesty. I would highly recommend this place for any services that you need and be in high confidence that your vehicle will be taken care of.”

“August 28, 2025. We came back to Precision Autoworks, yes, we are now repeat customers of Alex and his auto repair shop. because they did such a great job for us the first time. This time they were working on a 2010 VOLVO. Which needed some TLC.

We came back for their great dependability, service and price. They get the repairs done right, and their quality and the price can't be beat. But the most important thing really is Precision Autowork's honesty. Thank you Alex for the great work you and your team do. We will be back again and again. You've earned our trust and patronage.

This review was from May 2025.
Precision Autoworks really helped us out of a jam and got our wheels back on the road quickly and at a good price, Alex, the owner of Precision Autoworks gave us great service and was very honest to deal with.

We had our 2015 Honda Fit towed to Precision Autoworks from a Honda Dealer that were taking forever to finish a job they started on a blown engine and charging us through the roof. We had to take the vehicle away from the Honda Dealer with parts missing and the job unfinised because they were price gouging. Precision Autoworks were able to finish the engine repair that the Honda dealer couldn't do and Precision Autoworks also charged way less than the Honda Dealer was going to charge us. Thank you Precision Autoworks for doing great work at a great price!”

Find a Best Suspension & Steering in Ottawa, ON

Ottawa's roads are among the most pothole-affected in Ontario, a direct consequence of the freeze-thaw cycles produced by the region's heavy road salt program interacting with the local soil conditions — a combination that fractures asphalt aggressively through winter and leaves behind the road surface damage that is hard on suspension components every spring.

Common Causes of Suspension & Steering Wear

Potholes and rough road conditions impacting suspension components
Normal high-mileage wear on bushings, ball joints, and tie rod ends
Road salt corrosion on suspension bolts and fasteners
Overloading the vehicle beyond its designed weight capacity
Worn shocks and struts losing their damping ability over time
Aggressive driving over speed bumps and curbs

Signs Your Suspension Needs Attention

Vehicle pulls to one side or the steering wheel is off-center
Excessive bouncing after hitting a bump—the car doesn't settle
Clunking, knocking, or squeaking noises over bumps
Uneven tire wear on the inner or outer edges
Steering feels loose, vague, or requires excessive effort
Vehicle nose-dives when braking or leans excessively in turns

Suspension & Steering Services Available

Suspension & Steering Tips

Have your suspension inspected every 80,000 km or if you notice handling changes
Always get a wheel alignment after replacing any suspension components
Replace shocks and struts in pairs (both front or both rear) for balanced handling
Avoid overloading your vehicle—check the door jamb sticker for weight limits
Drive cautiously over potholes and speed bumps to extend suspension life
Uneven tire wear is often the first sign of a suspension problem—check your tires monthly

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do shocks and struts cost to replace in Ottawa? +
Replacing all four shocks or struts typically costs $800-$1,600 including parts and labor. Struts with integrated spring assemblies are more expensive than basic shock absorbers.
How often should suspension components be replaced? +
Shocks and struts generally last 80,000-150,000 km. Ball joints and tie rod ends vary, but should be inspected annually and replaced when play or looseness is detected.
Do I need a wheel alignment after hitting a pothole? +
If you hit a significant pothole and notice the steering wheel is off-center or the vehicle pulls, yes—get an alignment check immediately to prevent expensive uneven tire wear.
What's the difference between shocks and struts? +
Struts are a structural component that integrates the coil spring and shock absorber into one unit. Shocks are standalone dampers mounted separately. Your vehicle uses one or the other depending on the suspension design.
