Suspension & Steering Tips

Have your suspension inspected every 80,000 km or if you notice handling changes
Always get a wheel alignment after replacing any suspension components
Replace shocks and struts in pairs (both front or both rear) for balanced handling
Avoid overloading your vehicle—check the door jamb sticker for weight limits
Drive cautiously over potholes and speed bumps to extend suspension life
Uneven tire wear is often the first sign of a suspension problem—check your tires monthly

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do shocks and struts cost to replace in Codys? +
Replacing all four shocks or struts typically costs $800-$1,600 including parts and labor. Struts with integrated spring assemblies are more expensive than basic shock absorbers.
How often should suspension components be replaced? +
Shocks and struts generally last 80,000-150,000 km. Ball joints and tie rod ends vary, but should be inspected annually and replaced when play or looseness is detected.
Do I need a wheel alignment after hitting a pothole? +
If you hit a significant pothole and notice the steering wheel is off-center or the vehicle pulls, yes—get an alignment check immediately to prevent expensive uneven tire wear.
What's the difference between shocks and struts? +
Struts are a structural component that integrates the coil spring and shock absorber into one unit. Shocks are standalone dampers mounted separately. Your vehicle uses one or the other depending on the suspension design.
