“Had a bearing failure on my boat trailer near chipman. Terry came right away on a Saturday and brought it to Moncton on his flat deck. Good price, good guy, highly recommend!”

“Great service from Terry during that rainstorm on Sunday. CAA had called him to get me off the Trans Canada highway during the rainstorm when my alternator failed. It was clear his concern was my safety and that of my vehicle - including making a great garage recommendation.”

Transmission slipping—engine revs high but the vehicle doesn't accelerate

Transmission Tips

Check your transmission fluid level and condition monthly—it should be bright red and not smell burnt
Follow the manufacturer's recommended transmission fluid change intervals (usually every 60,000-100,000 km)
Come to a complete stop before shifting between Drive and Reverse
If you tow frequently, install an auxiliary transmission cooler to prevent overheating
Address a minor fluid leak immediately before it causes internal damage
For manual transmissions, don't ride the clutch pedal in traffic—it causes premature wear

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a transmission rebuild cost in Codys? +
A complete automatic transmission rebuild typically costs $2,500-$5,000 for most vehicles. High-performance or European vehicles can cost $5,000-$8,000+. Manual transmission rebuilds are usually $1,500-$3,000.
How do I know if my transmission needs rebuilding vs. repair? +
If the issue is a single component like a solenoid or sensor, a targeted repair may suffice ($300-$800). If you have slipping, multiple fault codes, and burnt fluid, a full rebuild is usually necessary.
How long does a transmission rebuild take? +
Most transmission rebuilds take 3 to 5 business days. Complex units like CVTs or dual-clutch transmissions may take longer depending on parts availability.
Is a transmission flush safe for my vehicle? +
Yes, when performed correctly by a professional using the proper fluid. However, if your fluid is severely burnt and the transmission is already failing, a flush alone won't fix the underlying mechanical damage.
